Salt Cay, Bahamas

Coastal Systems International, Inc. provided coastal engineering services relative to the design of a 500 foot breakwater to create a lagoon. It was the Owner's objective to create a dolphin lagoon on the east side of Salt Cay that would promote a "Swimming with the Dolphins" facility. The project required the creation of both an exterior and interior lagoon that connected with the existing dolphin facility. The design minimized construction costs by Salt Cay, Bahamasutilizing 30,000 tons of rock and 40,000 cubic yards of material excavated from the island's interior. The design also incorporated flushing culverts and a reduced-core elevation to maximize water flow and quality in the lagoon.
