Coastal Systems International, Inc. has participated in ongoing studies relating to the coastline within the Town of Hillsboro Beach since the nourishment project was completed in 1998. Of specific interest to the Town are the effects of Boca Raton Inlet to the north on the natural sand transport within the region. Coastal Systems has assisted the town in evaluating the performance of the inlet and advocating that the present inlet management plan be updated. Coastal Systems collected and analyzed over 20 years of data relating to the Inlet and adjacent beaches to evaluate the performance of the Inlet, its impact on adjacent beaches and performance of the historical inlet management strategy.
Boca Inlet, Boca Raton, FloridaCoastal Systems completed field operations including the hydrographic survey of the inlet and aerial photographs in 2002. ArcView GIS spatial analysis as well as desktop methods were adopted to recreate a historical sediment budget accounting for the effects of maintenance and ebb shoal dredging projects at Boca Raton Inlet. Presently, Coastal Systems represents the Town on The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the study of the region in conjunction with the City of Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the University of Florida. It is expected that the outcome of TAC will be adopted in the form of an updated inlet management lan that is equitable to all stakeholders.
