Castaway Cay, Bahamas

Coastal Systems International, Inc. was retained by the American Bridge Company to conduct a coastal engineering evaluation relative to the oceanographic and meteorological conditions at Disney's Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. Historical records of wind and wave conditions within the vicinity of Gorda Cay were researched and reviewed to address historical trends relative to specific storm conditions experienced during construction of the site improvements. These historical records were compared to severe coastal storm conditions experienced in December of 1997, and an expected probability of occurrence of similar coastal storm events was developed. Construction plans for the site were also reviewed along with previous investigation reports prepared for the original design. Coastal Systems prepared a report with the collected data as appendices, and recommendations were provided to the client to address the potential impacts of similar storms.
