Nassau Cargo Port Relocation,
New Providence, Bahamas

Coastal Systems International, Inc. prepared an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Government of the Bahamas addressing the proposed relocation of cargo shipping activities from downtown Nassau, New Providence Island to the southwest of the island in synergy with the economic revitalization of the downtown area.

Through collaboration with Governmental and private sector officials and regional planners, Coastal Systems determined seven (7) potential alternative locations for a modernized, efficient cargo shipping facility and evaluated each of the alternatives for economic, technical, and environmental feasibility. Our scope of work included literature review, detailed terrestrial and marine environmental assessments, coastal engineering evaluation (wind and wave conditions, storm surge modeling, and flushing analysis), socio-economic evaluation, port design, stakeholder consultation, and detailed mitigation planning.

The final EIA document was presented to numerous stakeholders and Coastal Systems participated in subsequent discussions with the Government of the Bahamas regarding the corporate structure and financing of the new port venture.
