The Coastal Systems International, Inc. (Coastal Systems) team of engineers, biologists, surveyors, and project managers worked together seamlessly to design and permit a custom dock and boat lift project for a new single-family residence in Coral Gables.
Boat_LiftExisting conditions consisted of a small concrete deck measuring 7 feet in width and 100 feet in length. The concrete deck and associated bulkhead is adjacent to the Coral Gables Canal. The proposed project incorporated a boat lift and a wooden platform over the existing concrete deck. The 36- linear-foot wooden platform extended waterward 5 feet over the canal to serve as a dock. The two-post boat lift, located adjacent to the dock, was designed to accommodate a vessel up to 30 feet in length.
Coastal Systems performed a hydrographic survey and assessed water depths and aquatic biological resources to obtain critical information regarding baseline conditions and the applicable regulations to set design parameters. Coastal Systems also reviewed local, state, and federal regulatory code and conducted pre-application consultation meetings with the City of Coral Gables and the Miami-Dade Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM). Environmental permit applications were compiled and processed through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and DERM for the project, which included the wooden dock and a 15,000 lb boat lift engineered to elevate a 30-foot vessel.
Coastal Systems also provided construction administration services specifically relative to the bid process in order to assist the client in selection of a contractor and to ensure the project is to be constructed in accordance with the approved plans.
