Coastal Systems International, Inc. designed the maintenance dredging and bulkhead replacement as part of the Bahia Mar's marina replacement project. Bahia Mar is the world's original mega-yacht marina, and it was originally built in 1949 and is the home of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The dredging consisted of excavation of approximately 26,000 cubic yards of material to accommodate larger vessels with the 235 new slips. Dredged material handling consulting services were provided, and contract payment hydrographic surveys were provided to support construction. Coastal Systems also assisted environmental consultants with the extensive seagrass restoration plans that were required to mitigate resource impacts from the maintenance dredging. Bulkhead improvements included the design of steel sheet piling replacement walls and marina utility penetrations for the docks. Construction administration services were provided, and construction was completed in November, 2003 in time for The boat show.
