Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas

Coastal Systems was retained by Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) to provide a design/build approach for improvements to the private island cruise ship destination on Great Stirrup Cay in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas. NCL is recognized as an innovator in on-board and onshore programming, and a pioneer of cruise industry "firsts" including an uninhabited "out island" experience at Great Stirrup Cay. NCL’s improvements to the 270-acres at Great Stirrup Cay will transform the island into a world class Bahamian experience for cruise ship passengers.

Coastal Systems provided a design/build approach to fast track the destination improvements with the following services:

  • Master Planning
  • Field Investigations - hydrographic and aerial mapping
  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Coastal Engineering Analysis
  • Infrastructure Improvements - water/sewer/electrical
  • Tender Basin - dock landing facilities
  • Expanded Beach and Recreational Area
  • Town Center/Main Hub
  • Water Sports Area

In 2009 construction of the initial project improvements commenced incorporating the design/build approach to include 26 new buildings and a new tender basin to be completed in 2011.
