Juluca, Anguilla, B.W.I.
Cap Juluca is located within the crescent of of Maundays Bay on the southwest coast of the exclusive island of Anguilla. The 179-acre hotel resort includes approximately 5,000 feet of white, sandy beach. Hurricane Omar caused significant beach erosion in October, 2008, and Coastal Systems was retained to perform a storm impact assessment. The assessment included beach profile surveys, sand sampling, and a sand search for beach compatible material.
Coastal Systems designed a 25,000 cubic yard beach renourishment project that was constructed in approximately two (2) months prior to the peak resort tourist season in January. The renourishment project was also coordinated through the Department of Physical Planning within the Government of Anguilla. Coastal Systems also performed a study to evaluate the coastal processes at the site and to identify beach management maintenance and coastal structure alternatives. During the beach nourishment construction, Coastal Systems provided on-site construction survey stake-out and beach fill contract payment surveys. Beach construction was monitored daily with reporting and volume calculations. Coastal Systems also worked closely with the construction management team to evaluate alternate sources of sand to expedite the fill production to meet the schedule.
Similarly In 1995, Coastal Systems also designed and managed the construction of the beach nourishment project after Hurricane Luis. An offshore sand source was dredged to place 35,000 cubic yards of material to restore the beach and dune system fronting the hotel resort.
