Hillsboro/Deerfield
Beach, Florida
Coastal Systems International, Inc. provided coastal engineering,
permitting, and environmental services for the design
and construction of the Hillsboro Beach/Deerfield Beach
Nourishment Project. The project extended along 6,120
feet of chronically eroding shoreline and placed approximately
500,000 cubic yards of sand along 1 mile of Hillsboro
Beach and 55,000 cubic yards of sand along southern Deerfield
Beach. Design drawings included details of the borrow
area, pipeline corridor, beach
fill template and groin restoration. Coastal Systems coordinated
all field operations for the project including hydrographic
and bathymetric surveys, erosion control line survey,
magnetometer survey, sand compaction tests and grain sieve
analyses, and aerial photography. Coastal Systems secured
all state, federal and county permits for the project
in addition to conducting all environmental mapping and
monitoring associated with the permit requirements. Coastal
Systems updated the regional sediment budget and is currently
designing/permitting the next periodic renourishment scheduled
for 2008. Beach profile and hard-bottom mapping was completed.
