South Cat Cay Development, Bimini Islands, The Bahamas

Coastal Systems International, Inc. prepared a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the South Cat Cay Development in the Bimini Island chain of the Bahamas. South Cat Cay is a privately owned 85 acre cay that will be the site of an exclusive, high-end residential, hospitality and marina project.

Coastal Systems conducted detailed field survey work, including bathymetric surveys, tidal measurements, topographic surveying, and terrestrial/marine biological surveys. Subsequent to establishment of the baseline site conditions, Coastal Systems completed a coastal engineering analysis for the project and recommended modifications to the marina design to ensure adequate flushing (within Bahamian governmental standards). Coastal Systems advised the Developer regarding the need to protect sensitive mangrove habitats and designed a mangrove preservation project that maximized the acreage of developable real estate surrounding the mangrove area.

The development project received full environmental approval from the Government of the Bahamas in 2009 for a boutique hotel, 120-slip megayacht marina, marina village, and single family residences. The Environmental Management Plan prepared by Coastal Systems will provide a comprehensive environmental framework for construction of the project.
