Oleta River, Florida

Coastal Systems International, Inc. developed and implemented a design whereby the upland area was excavated from an elevation of +3.5 feet NGVD to +1 foot NGVD, and a connecting canal was filled with 167,000 cubic yards of material to the same elevation for mangrove planting. The objective of this project was to restore the 30 acres of Oleta River wetlands to their original condition that existed in the 1950's, prior to marina development. Historic streams were restored and connected to existing flushing canals to provide necessary water for nurturing the newly restored wetlands.
