Beachwalk, Florida

Coastal Systems International, Inc., in conjunction with Bradshaw Gill & Associates (the landscape architect), prepared conceptual designs for an on-grade paver block walkway that connects Lummus Park to the 21st Street wooden boardwalk. The beachwalk measures approximately 3,400’ by 15’ and connects to each of the five street ends. Adequate ramp slopes and curves were provided to comply with ADA requirements and to accommodate emergency vehicles.

Coastal Systems worked closely with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Bureau of Beaches and Coastal Systems as well as Dade County Department of Environmental Recourse Management (DERM) and the City of Miami Beach in order to obtain state and local approval. Extensive public meetings were held to acquire authorization from the riparian upland owners. Civil drawings included grading, paving, and drainage, as well as utility service connections and street end designs to extend 17th and 18th Streets. Marine turtle lighting and construction administration services were also provided.
