Underwater Video Mapping for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Florida
Coastal Systems International, Inc. , as a subconsultant to Dial Cordy and Associates, provided underwater video mapping services in support of a Jacksonville District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contract for marine resource mapping services. Equipment, personnel and logistical support were provided on a regular basis for the annual contract. Coastal Systems owns and operates a towed underwater video system that can be precisely positioned using differential GPS (DGPS).
Navigation is provided by HYPACK hydrographic survey software. The navigation is also displayed in real time on the video display in the survey vessel and recorded in digital format using custom-made interfacing equipment that displays the XY coordinates (as opposed to latitude/longitude). At several locations, hydrographic surveys were performed concurrently with the towed video systems using a survey echo sounder (fathometer).Positioning data is recorded and track lines plotted for mapping the video information.
