Volvo Ocean Race Docks, Florida

The Volvo Ocean Race is the world's most prestigious Ocean Race, and the 2011-12 Race began October 29, 2011 in Alicante, Spain. The race covers over 39,000 nautical miles, and will end in Galway, Ireland in July, 2012. Leg 6 of the 10-continent race will begin from Itijai, Brazil and culminate in May in Miami, Florida. Miami will be the race's only North American port. For more information on the race visit these web sites:

Coastal Systems was retained by Dock and Marine Construction Corporation to design-build the temporary floating docks for the race village over the two-week event. The docks will moor the design vessel, which is the Volvo Open 70 sailing vessel. The temporary floating docks with anchor piles and gangways were designed for the winds, waves, tidal currents, and water levels at the site in the FEC slip adjacent to Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami.
